What is VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for Knee Replacement?

VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for knee replacement is a novel, state-of-the-art knee system that simplifies total knee arthroplasty, commonly known as total knee replacement surgery, by offering valuable insights, versatile execution, and verified performance to provide efficiency and optimize patient outcomes.

There is a growing trend to utilize robotic assistance in joint replacement procedures for increased precision and accuracy. This technology adapts to Dr. Eccles’ workflow and lets him utilize advanced planning abilities to assist him to precisely align and position the implants based on your particular anatomy. He is able to plan on the navigation screen and visualize what would happen prior to removing any damaged bone to make sure that he and you will be happy with your knee function and balance. Dr. Eccles, with the help of this technology, can make precise changes to this plan down to the ½ millimeter and ½ degree. Once satisfied, he is able to execute that surgical plan with the assistance of the VELYS™ Robot.

Key Features of VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for Knee Replacement

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution makes knee arthroplasty surgery much simpler by providing:

  • Valuable Insights: Gap balance data to assist surgeons to visualize and predict the stability of the joint
  • Versatile Execution: Instinctive and integrated design to provide surgeons with the control they are used to while optimizing daily patient OR flow
  • Verified Performance: Consistent and accurate plan execution supporting the ATTUNE Knee in offering superior patient outcomes

Procedure for VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution for Knee Replacement

In general, the incision and the implants are the same compared to a traditional knee replacement. The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution for total knee replacement is performed under spinal anesthesia in conjunction with the ATTUNE® Knee System but performed with the help of a robotic assistant.

The robotic system does not perform the procedure on its own. The surgery is performed entirely by Dr. Eccles by prompting and controlling the robotic arm as per the personalized plan developed by Dr. Eccles in the operating room. This ensures greater accuracy in the placement of knee implants and does not replace his surgical skills or experience. This technology does allow for potential less soft tissue releases to balance your knee which could in turn allow you to have a faster recovery.
